My Diastasis Recti Journey And What I Wore

My Diastasis Recti Journey And What I Wore

I totally get how tough it can be to feel comfortable and at ease with yourself after pregnancy. Post-pregnancy, I struggled with diastasis recti, and honestly, it really made me feel frustrated and self-conscious—like, really self-conscious about my midsection. But here’s the thing: as women, our bodies tell the story of where we’ve been, and that’s something to be embraced. Our bodies deserve to be accepted and dressed in whatever feels comfortable and flattering.  The right fit is out there for everyone, you  just need to find it!

The Struggle with Diastasis Recti

After having my baby, nothing seemed to fit right. It felt way worse than when I was struggling with bloating from celiac disease and IBS. The bloat-friendly jeans I designed before pregnancy were a game-changer in helping me feel like myself again postpartum. But I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure how to style them at first! It took some trial and error, but I figured it out, and now I want to share what worked for me!

Building a Diastasis Recti-Friendly Wardrobe

  • Bloat-Friendly Jeans: Finding jeans that didn’t dig into my midsection or feel too tight used to be a huge struggle. That’s why we created jeans with a relaxed (aka larger) waistband that gently hugs your body without squeezing or digging in.

  • Relaxed Tops: I love pairing my jeans with soft, relaxed tops that flow naturally. These tops don’t cling to my midsection and give me room to breathe, which is key when you’re healing. My favorites include bigger button-down shirts, fitted boxy sweatshirts that hit my waistline, and tunics. It really depends on the style of jeans I’m wearing—baggy jeans = more fitted tops, slim jeans = baggier tops.

  • Easy Layering: Layering is a must for me, especially with lightweight jackets or cardigans. They add dimension to my outfit without making me feel bulky, and they offer just the right amount of coverage when I need it. Sometimes I even layer a shirt with a white tee underneath for extra confidence—it adds dimension and really completes the look.

Style Tips for Postpartum Confidence

  • Balance Your Look: If you're feeling self-conscious about your midsection, focus on drawing attention to other areas. A cute necklace stack, small gold hoops, or a v-neck top can make all the difference.

  • Play with Color and Patterns: Dark colors can be slimming, but don’t shy away from bright colors or fun patterns! If it fits right, you can wear anything with confidence.

  • Go for Breathable Fabrics: The fabrics you choose really affect how comfortable you feel. Cotton, Tencel, and linen are some of my go-to fabrics that keep me feeling light and comfortable.

Moving Forward with Confidence

Your recovery is personal, and your style can help you feel good every step of the way. By choosing clothes that work with your diastasis recti, you’re investing in you—your comfort and confidence. It’s all about embracing the changes, trusting the process, and letting your clothes celebrate your strength as a new mom.
